Week 10 Reflection on group work This week we met to film our presentation. Trying to find a time to meet proved to be a bit difficult and if we were to do this project again we would try and be better organised in ensuring we can find times when all members of the group are available. However we did all manage to meet at the same time allowing us to have multiple rehearsals before actually filming the presentation. I feel that this was super important as it allowed us to fully articulate ourselves to positive effect when we filmed the presentation. Overall I feel as a group we have worked well and everyone carried their weight by completing the tasks that they were assigned in the future the only aspect I would look to improve drastically would be communication between the team members. I feel that if we had been better at communicating we could have been more efficient in regard ensuring that presentation followed the same format throughout .
Week 9 Reflection on Lecture 9 In this weeks lecture we learnt about sustainability and the importance of good practice when it comes to being environmentally friendly within a business. We learnt how sustainability produces a variety of different problems regarding how society as a whole will be able to do more with less resources. Then we learnt how as a whole our society needs to re adapt its approach to have a more positive impact on the planet. We also looked at a series of live business cases that all demonstrate a more sustainable version of business processes, such as tesla making good quality electric cars. Reflection on group work This week after each completing our separate segments of our presentation we collated all of our work and put it together in a format we believe will be best for us when presenting. We tried to keep the amount of text on the slides to a minimum allowing us to expand on all our key points when we present. Each member of the group w...
Week 8 Reflection on Lecture 8 In week eight’s lecture we learnt about business models within the digital world. Firstly we learnt of the differences between business firm , business processes and routines and how they make up the day to day activities of a business. AS well as this I learnt how that because IT allows for quicker decision making it flattens the structure of a business as fewer managers are needed. I learnt that there 5 types of organisational structure entrepreneurial , machine bureaucracy, divisionalised bureaucracy, professional bureaucracy and adhocracy. We then went on to learn about the benefits of using IS systems and how they can provide a competitive edge. This is possible because of the automated actions the IS systems can do which results in faster more accurate results for less money therefore lowering the costs of the business which allows for greater profits. By adopting IS systems business are often able to gain a competitive edge and we look...
Week 7 Reflection on Lecture 7 In this week’s lecture we learnt specifically about what makes a good or bad presentation in relation to our coursework. The first thing we learnt is that it is important to layout a good outline of what you will be talking about throughout your presentation. WE also learn about the rule of 7 X 7 which is where you only use seven line of seven words each. This is to keep the information concise and to the point which is much better when trying to retain the attention of the people that you are presenting too. WE also learn that making slides to colourful can often be a distraction and can take away from what you are actually saying this is also the case for poor use of the animation in your presentation. We also learn how a strong structure allows for the best presentation with a clear intro body and evaluative conclusion. WE also were taught about the power of keeping things simple and how it allows for all of the most valuable information being ...
Week 6 Reflection on Lecture 6: During lecture 6 we went into more detail about the power of cloud computing and the effect that it may have on business as well as looking at relational databases and how they work. The first thing we looked at is software as a service and utility which is a concept which allows the business pay on a subscription basis and only for what they actually use. This eradicates the costs of maintaining the system and installing the system as these are now outsourced. An SaaS system is cost effective on both sides for the client and the server provider. As systems are able to be scaled up or down for business requirements allowing a one system to fit a number of different businesses. In addition to this we learn how cloud computing can offer applications such as grid computing which can allow for the completion of large scale complex tasks which would usually be done on a supercomputer. We also learnt about green computing which is essentially the ...
Week 5   Reflection on Lecture 5: In This weeks lecture we learnt about information crime and the security and controls that businesses need to implement to ensure that there information is well protected and secure form viruses and other potential threats. Firstly we learnt how due to the new information wave how due to the fact that business information systems are connected to greater network they end up being exposed to an array of external and internal threats. Haider taught us that often the biggest threats are actually internal and often due to employee mistakes. The most common form of computer crimes are unauthorized people having access to information by being able to intercept electronic communication or information modification often carried out by hackers who manage to gain administrative status within the systems. In this current computer age businesses are at threat from hackers and viruses almost daily just by being connected to an internet networks. We le...
Week 4 Reflection on Lecture 4: Weeks 4s lecture was about enhancing business performance via the use of effective and well implemented information systems. The first concept we learnt about this week was that of big data and how often business struggle to deal with sheer volume and variety of data and how management staff within a corporation require hard and soft data to help with various decision making and prediction based tasks. I also learnt how that if a business is well informed it will be able to make more educated and therefore better reactions to changes to opportunities and threats within their external environments. However as well as being used to react in the face of changes is also allows business to plan ahead and even prepare for changes that may be coming in the near future. This directly allows businesses to continuously evaluate and update their processes to try an achieve maximum profits. Also I learnt about the databases and how they are used to c...
