Week 6

Reflection on Lecture 6:

During lecture 6 we went into more detail about the power of cloud computing and the effect that it may have on business as well as looking at relational databases and how they work. The first thing we looked at is software as a service and utility which is a concept which allows the business pay on a subscription basis and only for what they actually use. This eradicates the costs of maintaining the system and installing the system as these are now outsourced. An SaaS system is cost effective on both sides for the client and the server provider. As systems are able to be scaled up or down for business requirements allowing a one system to fit a number of different businesses. In addition to this we learn how cloud computing can offer applications such as grid computing which can allow for the completion of large scale complex tasks which would usually be done on a supercomputer. We also learnt about green computing which is essentially the movement to virtualize servers to allow for reduced power bills and to become more green overall in a society that more frequently searches for sustainable products from sustainably run businesses. Relational databases are a collection of related tables that draw upon common fields. Overall From this lecture I learnt  about the power of cloud computing and how it is revolutionising business as we know it today and is even being hinted as being the fourth wave as we enter an internet of things.

Reflection on Group Work

After questioning further and analysing the information we had identified that Paladar itself doesn't believe it has any burning issues that need addressing, I feel that this maybe because as a relatively new start-up company they are yet to fully find their feet and be looking to improve radically. As a result me and my groups have decided that are best approach would be to recommend ways that IT systems could be implemented to increase efficiency throughout the business in the hope that not only will this lead to reduced costs but allow for increased profits which is the ultimate goal for the business. One way in which they suggested that a system may be useful was in creating a more effective marketing allowing them to target a more specific target audience, this is something that me and my group will look to find a solution for allowing the business to operate at its maximum capacity if effective. During this week I realised that i personally had not acted well in regard to changing groups and received emails from Howard. I now understand that I better level of communication from myself to members of staff would have likely prevented this situation and I’m trying to work closely with Howard and Haider to ensure that this situation gets resolved.
