Week 1
Reflection on Lecture 1:
Lecture one
was all about the difficulties that businesses face in the twenty first
century. We learnt about the three waves of changes that have taken place throughout
human history the first of which being the a civilisation based agriculture, a
period which lasted thousands of years. Following this first wave the second
wave represent the industrial revolution that took started to take place in the
early years of the eighteenth century and ended up lasting around 150 years.
The third a final known wave is the information age which is a wave of change
that world is currently experiencing, this is a wave in which the importance of
information is likely to rise and rise which could ultimately lead to
information becoming the new currency. In addition we learnt about the
importance that information systems play in ensuring that the right information
is delivered to the right people at the right times. As well as this we learnt
how consumer behaviour have been altered greatly since the introduction of the
internet which allows opinions and reviews about a product being readily
available to the consumer without having to even leave their own home. Also we
learnt the difference between data which is raw information compared to data
and knowledge, knowledge being the ability to use and understand information to
make decisions or even predictions. We also learnt of the power of cloud
computing and how an internet of things is not too far away in the future.
Finally we learnt about the competencies of IS systems and how IS professionals
work in a field where salaries are rising.
Reflection on group work
During the
seminar class we were placed in groups for the coursework assignment. Me and my
group decided to work on the business school as our business case and decided
that we needed to form a list of questions to ask people to try and understand
what problem that their may be within the school. I did suggest that we make a
group chat but we didn’t do this and I think that it is very important that we
do as otherwise we will not be able to contact each other which could end up
having a negative effect on the outcome of the group work. I will definitely
recommend that we make a chat for easier communication next week.
