Week 3

Reflection on Lecture 3:

This weeks lecture was about the management of information systems infrastructure and services and how information systems actually work. I learnt of the physical components of the IS infrastructure and how they make the storing and sharing of data. I learnt about how there is a huge variety in the different hardware interfaces that a business could use varying from price points as low as around two hundred dollars to well into the millions for supercomputers developed for scientific research. In addition we learnt about software which controls the basic operations of a computer such as start up scripts and file storage programs. However Software can grow in complexity which gives us almost all of a computer programs we are familiar with today. Another thing that we learnt about is the variety of different  computer networks  and how they allow the sharing of information via binary coding which is a series of noughts and ones that are the basic code for computers. I the learnt of the storage needed to allow vast amount of data to be stored and the cooling systems that the require often needing huge intricate irrigation pipes which channels cold water around these huge systems to prevent them from burning out

Reflection on Group Work:

After having little to no contact with my group so far I have become increasingly concerned about how this may effect our potential to get a good grade or even pass this module. I have as a result spoken to one of the people from my prior seminar group who doesn’t yet have a group formed and I have decided that it will probably be more beneficial for my grade to work alongside Andre and Ahmed as we know each other better and have much easier ways of getting contact with each other which I feel will allow me to attain my highest potential grade for this project.
